Wishes is a series of signs inspired by Disneyland slogans from across the globe – “Wishes”, “It’s Magic!” (in French), “Happiness is Here” (Japanese) and “Tomorrowland” (Chinese). They are made from extremely rare vintage uranium glass borosilicate tubing in the traditional form of neon signage, but with an important difference. These signs do not use electrodes, but glow independently as a result of the reaction to additional UV tube lighting. The radioactive isotypes in the uranium reacts with the UV to form an alluring green glow. The future, the world of magic, our dreams, these are all presented at Disneyland, “Where dreams come true…” In “Wishes” these dreams are presented, as both beautiful and ominous, through the material of Uranium Glass.
