The theme of the Art Camp is ‘Nuclear and Nuclear Power’
In 2025, 14 years will have passed since the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, and through the ocean discharge of treated nuclear plant water in 2023 and the Noto Peninsula earthquake in 2024, nuclear energy will again attract attention in Japan, where natural disasters are frequent. The nuclear energy situation in Japan is once again attracting attention. Also, as we approach the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we are at a crossroads where we must once again deeply consider the possibilities and dangers of nuclear energy. In this project, we will look back on how post-war Japan has dealt with nuclear weapons and nuclear power by intersecting the perspectives of art and philosophy with a camp living together with the natural environment on a remote island. The project will then rethink the safety and risks involved in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, discuss broadly what kind of energy policy is needed to build a sustainable and secure future, and explore responsible choices we can make as a society.
